Texas Border Coalition Statement on USDA Action to Combat New World Screwworm
LAREDO, Texas – Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, chairman of the Texas Border Coalition (TBC), today issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s plan to combat the New World Screwworm:
“Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of Texas. I applaud President Trump’s and Secretary Rollins’ leadership in combating the New World Screwworm, which poses a serious threat to South Texas communities and our economy, as well as our food supply chain. USDA’s bold five-pronged plan will help ensure we are able to detect, control, and eliminate the New World Screwworm before it wreaks havoc here at home.
As a rancher myself, I know how high the stakes are and I am encouraged by the serious action USDA is taking. The Texas Border Coalition looks forward to working with the Administration to combat this threat.”
