FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAREDO, Texas – February 25, 2025 – The Texas Border Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the security, prosperity, and opportunity of the Texas-Mexico border region is pleased to announce the election of Judge Tano Tijerina as its new Chairman.
Judge Tijerina takes on this leadership role following the successful tenure of El Paso County Commissioner, the honorable David Stout, who served for three years and made significant contributions to the organization’s growth and impact.
As Chairman, Judge Tijerina will spearhead the coalition’s efforts to strengthen the border region by advancing regional prosperity, secure borders, and fair immigration policies. Under his leadership, the coalition will focus on expanding education and workforce opportunities, driving economic and trade development, improving transportation infrastructure, and enhancing healthcare and overall well-being for the community.
Born and raised in Laredo and a longtime rancher, Judge Tijerina has served as Webb County judge since 2015. He previously served three years as Executive Vice President of Precept Ministries Spanish Board, was on the board of the South Texas Food Bank, and played for four years in major league baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He is a graduate of Texas A&M International University and J.W. Nixon High School. Judge Tijerina has been married for 23 years to the former Kimberly Walker. They have four children: Bonnie Jean, Cayetano Isacc, Christopher Alfonso and Keith Alexander.
“I am honored to take on this important role as the region traverses a challenging, but opportunistic time," said Judge Tano Tijerina. "I look forward to working with the dedicated Texas Border Coalition members and our partners to continue our vital work at the border. I was born and raised in the border region and there is no place I’d rather live. I thank Chairman Stout for his leadership and look forward to making our region stronger than ever.”
“It has been an honor to serve as Chair of the Texas Border Coalition and be a voice for our incredible region in Washington and Austin. From immigration, to trade and transportation, to border management, TBC has led the charge to make sure that those who call the Texas-Mexico border home have a seat at the table. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the coalition as a member and advocating for policies to ensure our community is safe, healthy, and prosperous,” said outgoing Chairman David Stout.
“The Texas Border Coalition is proud to welcome Judge Tano Tijerina as our new Chairman at this pivotal moment for the Texas-Mexico border region. His deep-rooted commitment to our communities and his experience in both public service and economic development will be instrumental in advancing policies that drive prosperity, security, and opportunity for the millions who call this region home. I look forward to working alongside him to ensure that our border remains a thriving gateway for trade, innovation, and economic growth, while also advocating for fair and effective policies that uplift our communities,” said outgoing Vice Chairman C. LeRoy Cavazos-Reyna.
The Texas Border Coalition remains committed to its mission to make recommendations to the Texas Legislature and Congress that will help the Texas-Mexico border region grow and prosper and looks forward to Judge Tijerina’s leadership in this new chapter.
