Please make your plans now to join the Texas Border Coalition for our 2017 Summer Meeting, June 21-22 in South Padre Island.
We’ll start our gathering with a welcome reception at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21. Our quarterly business meeting will be on Thursday, June 22 at the South Padre Island Community Center, 4501 Padre Boulevard. You can see a draft meeting agenda here. Thanks to returning TBC member South Padre Island, SPI Mayor Barry Patel and City Manager Susan Guthrie for their legendary Island hospitality!
LEGISLATIVE PANEL DISCUSSION: As we did at our 2015 summer meeting, our lunch presentation on the 22nd will feature a panel of border legislators discussing the 2017 legislative session and how the decisions made there will affect our region. We’re honored that State Senators Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Brownsville) and Jose Rodriguez (D-El Paso) have already confirmed, and several other House and Senate leaders from our border delegation are confirming their schedules now.
TBC members and guests will have an opportunity to ask questions of our legislative panel and thank them for their leadership on behalf of the border region. Our draft meeting agenda also features important presentations on combating Zika and other border health challenges, the #OneBorder initative and an update on the Innovative Readiness Training program that is bringing our military men and woman to do public projects in border communities. Plus we’ve got a few other speakers still in the works.
HOST HOTEL — SPECIAL TBC GROUP RATE: Our host hotel for the meeting will be the Holiday Inn Express, Inn and Suites South Padre Island, 6502 Padre Boulevard. TBC members and guests can reserve rooms at the special group rate of $116 per night for Wednesday, June 21 and Thursday, June 22. In addition, as a special benefit for TBC members and guests who wish to enjoy more time on South Padre Island, TBC has arranged for a continuation rate of $149 per night for Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24.
